Inline website surveys

Include a survey inline in your website, seamlessly blending in with other content to naturally prompt users to respond without interrupting

Updated this week

Iterate's inline website surveys allow you to include the first question of a survey in the natural flow of your website. You have full control over the question's placement and how it looks, allowing for a natural and seamless way to include survey questions as part of your user journey.

You also still have the control of Iterate's powerful targeting options, allowing you to choose which users should see your survey question and when.

Note: Inline website surveys are still in beta. To get access, please contact your account representative, or reach out via our support chat.

Creating an inline website survey

Click Create a new survey on your Iterate dashboard, then Website. Under the Type selection, choose Inline question & overlay.

The first question of your survey will be the one displayed inline in your website:

Any subsequent questions will appear in a popup once the first question has been answered:

Once you've built your survey and made any customizations, you're ready to add it to your website.

Targeting your survey

Though the first survey question is embedded in your website, you can still use Iterate's targeting controls to determine whether a given user should see it (in the survey's Targeting options tab). If a user is not selected to see the survey, it will be hidden from the page. Make sure to allow for this possibility when considering the survey question's placement on the page.

Publishing your survey

In the Preview and publish tab of your survey, you'll find two things that need to be added to your site:

  1. The Iterate SDK (if you've previously used website surveys, you've likely already done this

  2. HTML that you'll insert into the page where you want the question to be displayed.

The HTML we provide includes the necessary elements to allow responses to be saved to Iterate. Any customization is completely up to you — as long as the basic elements and their properties exist, you can adjust the question's styling and details to match your website design.

Once you're ready, and the HTML has been included in your website, just flip the Publish your survey toggle to turn it on.
